At RDD 2026, Bespak presented workshops and posters on the latest cutting-edge advancements in the inhalation industry. During the workshop Bespak® explored one of the biggest challenges facing the industry today: how to reduce the carbon footprint of pressurised Metered Dose Inhalers (pMDIs) while maintaining the performance patients rely on every day.
While much of the industry focus to date has centred on the transition to low Global Warming Potential (GWP) propellants, the session explored how the pMDI valve has a significant role to play in a broader net-zero strategy.
A central focus was Bespak’s market-trusted BK357 valve, which has been developed to work with next-generation propellants while retaining dose consistency, low leakage and ‘drop-in replacement’ compatibility. The workshop also highlighted how advanced simulation and modelling tools helped accelerate that development work while reducing waste.
Major milestones in Bespak’s sustainability journey were also showcased, including the approval and launch of the world’s first low carbon pMDI in 2025 using the Bespak BK357 valve, alongside the announced manufacturing expansion for Chiesi’s low carbon portfolio. Bespak has also completed its first Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) on its pMDI valve — an analysis methodology that maps the environmental impact of a product or process.
Bespak’s sustainability strategy extends far beyond propellant transition alone. From recycled materials to energy-efficient manufacturing, the company is embedding sustainability throughout its entire operations, reinforcing its position as the specialist inhalation contract development and manufacturing organisation.
