Mapping the product design space: A case study

Contract Manufacturing Devices

resource : Case study

As the inhalation industry shifts toward low carbon pressurised Metered Dose Inhalers (pMDIs), we set out to develop a more efficient way to understand and control manufacturing variability in pMDI valves. Using advanced modelling and virtual simulation, we mapped the full design space of the pMDI valve and produced example tolerance and sensitivity analyses that showed exactly how design changes affect performance.

This highly automated approach reduces waste, saves time and cost, and improves design confidence. We now see opportunities to apply it across our full development pipeline, from formulation through to final device and lung modelling.
