There is an urgent need to develop and launch pressurised Metered Dose Inhalers (pMDIs) with alternative low Global Warming Potential propellants such as HFA-152a to sustain a supply of life-saving medicines to patients.
We studied the stability of albuterol sulphate HFA-152a pMDIs up to 3 and 5 months, testing the effect of ethanol content (2%, 4% and 8%). Performance levels such as delivered dose, aerodynamic particle size distribution, spray pattern, weight loss and moisture were investigated.
